The Jallianwala Bagh is witness to one of the most tragic incidents that took place during the Indian freedom struggle. On 13th April 1919, on the day of baisakhi, 10,000 people were gathered at Jaliwanwala Bagh and the British Police opened fire on a peaceful assembly of people gathered in demand of freedom. About two thousand of people were killed in the fire including the women and children.
This place was built to pay homage to these martyrs and one can see the photos of key personalities involved in a small gallery and the well into which the crowds jumped to escape the bullets.
