Ghoom Monastery

Ghoom Monastery – Situated at an altitude of 8,000 feet, and visit to Darjeeling generally begins with the Ghoom monastery.

It was built in 1875 by Lama Sherab Gyatso,

The monastery has an imposing 4.5-metre tall image of the Maitreya Buddha in gold polish and embedded in precious stones. The monastery has also preserved some rare handwritten Buddhist manuscripts.
